I taught high school for 32 years. I write: fiction, poetry, essays. Currently retired vannah. My 5 novels, A Kaddish for Inhuman Steadman, Tietam Cane, Mr. Hooks, Foul Purity and The Emancipation of Mr. Cash are all available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. I run a writer's group at the learning center here in Savannah.

1. Taking licks from Mr. Tom Porter. Then watching and laughing as Bobby Fincher saunters into our Algebra class with that swagger of his and Mr. Porter decides he needs licks, too. So: wham! wham! wham!

2. Coach Landon Brent leans over me during summer football practice as I puke in a ditch. He's yelling in my ear: "Levens, the beer drinking needs to stop!"

3. Listening to Charles Haygood, Bobby Fincher and Luther Farliss banter in the locker room after football practice.

4. Watching Jack Mize and Randy Wheeler square off at the old paper house across the street from Lanier Junior. They both stopped after blood was dripping from Randy W.'s ears.

5. Guyton Carr offering a pair of tiny binoculars to anyone he suspected of cheating.

6.Getting caught with Tee Carstarphen at the Bibb Theater by Mr. Nolan after football curfew.
