James Goins

JAMES PRESTON GOINS SR.

James P. Goins, Jim, also known to many of his friends as Gogo passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning, November 18, 2020.  Jim was born at Warner Robins Air Force base, and lived his childhood years in Macon, Georgia.  Jim attended North Georgia College (NGC), and was a member of the Class of ’67.  He served several years as an officer in the U.S. Army, including a tour in Vietnam where he was a Platoon Leader for a rifle platoon in the 4th Infantry Division.  He reached the rank of Captain before leaving the Army and beginning his career with the IRS.  He loved NGC and was a faithful alumni participating in Class reunions and visiting the campus to see various UNG sport competitions, especially the girls’ softball teams.  He is survived by his wife, Toni, a son, stepsons, and grandchildren, all of whom he loved greatly.  He was a member of two Vietnam Veteran organizations, the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Association (AVVBA) and the Georgia Vietnam Veterans Alliance Chapter 1 (GVVA).  For the last many years he had lunch every Friday with a group of Vietnam Veterans at Semper Fi Bar & Grill in Woodstock.  He was always cheerful, full of laughs and stories to tell of his Vietnam experiences.  He will be missed greatly by his family and many friends
