Steve Leaptrot

Stephen "Steve" Harris Leaptrot passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. Services will be private. The family will greet friends on Saturday, July 15, 2017 from 2:00PM until 4:00PM at Hart’s Mortuary, 765 Cherry Street.

Mr. Leaptrot graduated from Lanier High School in Macon in 1963. He graduated from Davis College in California and became a Peace Corps volunteer. While in the Peace Corps he lived in Nepal in a house facing Mount Everest. He taught English until he became sick and had to come back to the States. After returning, Mr. Leaptrot taught in a few elementary schools, including Union and Danforth. He retired from teaching gifted students at Central High School and Southwest. After retiring he continued to teach in programs to help students get a high school diploma. He was married briefly to Gina Wyckoff but never had kids. Mr. Leaptrot finally retired from teaching altogether and spent the last 15 years spending time with his friends. His favorite food was Indian. He kept up his knowledge of Nepal and the language so he could converse with them. He enjoyed hearing from his former students and seeing them as often as possible. One of his favorite things to do was pass out hard candy to everyone he met. He was known to some as the candy man. He will be missed.

Mr. Leaptrot is survived by his brother, Mark Leaptrot (Jeanny) of Florida.
